Even 3 years ago when Steam assigned us teams, Reddit rigged the contest so every team would win on a specific day. That event was abused and people created throwaway Steam accounts to farm for free games. In order to do things like this again Valve would need to resurrect their support for achievements which seems to have died about 5 years ago, so they could add a few anti-cheat measures (e.g. I get your point about the Summer 2011 event but like most things people ruin everything. Daily Tasks: Complete these tasks every day to level up your trophy. Level it up by completing more tasks and unlocking even more trophies. I take the point about abuse though: if I remember coal was sourced by achievements too, and achievement cheat software exists. Earn five trophies to unlock a unique profile badge. I think that's much better than just starting then up and closing them for an imperfect badge. It was all about PLAYING your catalogue: Do new things in games - even ones you've beaten - and get new things to do. The key thing is these were all made for the Steam event, just like the in-game tasks. Extinction Agenda, the Secret of the Norns sidequest in Winter Voices and so on. In place we get badges, a more recent kind of profile trinket whose only purpose is to occasionally remind you of its imperfection simply because this event wasn't announced and you missed the first day. But this time those games don't have new challenges, so I figure everyone is just starting them and closing them immediately.īetween that, the lack of new content and inability to complete tasks of the previous days are objectively worse than before.
